Questions people ask before starting therapy

How much does a therapy session cost?

Individual sessions are $175 for 50 minutes. The initial 15-minute phone consultation is always free, so you can ask questions and get a feel for working together before committing to anything.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. I'm in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, so BCBS members typically pay just their copay or coinsurance. If you have a different insurer, I'll give you superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and I'm happy to help you figure out what your plan covers.

Why do some people choose to pay privately?

Private pay means no diagnosis is required on your record, no insurance company decides how many sessions you 'need,' and your information stays fully between us. For many clients, that privacy and flexibility is worth it.

What payment methods do you accept?

All major credit cards, ACH bank transfer, and cash. Cards are kept securely on file and charged after each session, so there's nothing to remember.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start weekly, since consistency is what builds momentum, especially in trauma work. As things stabilize, many move to every other week. We'll decide together and adjust as life requires.

How long does therapy take?

It genuinely depends on your goals. Some focused work (like single-incident EMDR) can wrap up in a few months; deeper trauma or long-standing patterns take longer. We'll check in on progress regularly, so you'll never be left wondering whether it's working.

What's your cancellation policy?

Life happens. I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule; sessions cancelled with less notice are charged the full fee, since that time was held for you.

What happens in the free consultation?

A relaxed 15-minute phone call. You share a little about what's bringing you to therapy, ask anything you like, and I'll share honestly whether I'm the right fit, and point you to trusted colleagues if I'm not.
